Brazill to be sidelined for season opener

Collingwood Super Netball co-captain Ash Brazill will miss the Pies’ Round 1 clash against the Adelaide Thunderbirds this Saturday due to concussion.

The 32-year-old sustained a head knock during a training session last week and was later diagnosed with concussion.

As part of Netball Australia’s concussion protocols, Brazill is required to be sidelined for 12 days.

Collingwood training partner Zoe Davies will replace Brazill in Collingwood’s team list for Saturday’s match.

Brazill will continue to be monitored throughout the next week and will work towards a return in Collingwood’s Round 2 match against the West Coast Fever.

Garbin's first game also a milestone

Club newcomer Sophie Garbin will hit a major milestone along with her first official appearance in the black and white stripes, playing her 50th Suncorp Super Netball match.

The goal shooter has added another string to the Magpies' bow throughout preseason, adding to an already exciting front-end.

With plenty of accuracy and the versatility to rotate between both goal shooter and goal attack where required, Garbin will look to be a more permanent fixture on court in 2022.

Davies elevated as temporary replacement

2022 training partner Zoe Davies will get her first taste of gameday as Brazill's replacement for the opening round.

A small defender with great elevation and anticipation, Davies has the ability to cover both wing and circle defence, and plays a similar high-flying role to fellow Magpies defender Jodi-Ann Ward.

Davies has showcased plenty of potential throughout the preseason, taking the court during two of the Magpies' four Team Girls Cup matches, as well as preseason matches against the Sunshine Coast Lightning.
