Round 11 match preview

After a tough loss to the Giants that resulted in us being knocked out of the top four, we’re on the road to Adelaide to take on the Thunderbirds in what’s to be the start of our fight for finals.

Last time we met the Thunderbirds, we took all eight premiership points in front of our home crowd at Melbourne Arena. Both Medhurst and Nelson shot at over 90% accuracy and our defensive end made the most of the Thunderbirds lack of flow in their attacking end.

In round 11, we should expect the Thunderbirds to come out fighting as they aim to steal the win and every bonus point they can, in front of what’s expected to be a sell-out crowd at Priceline Stadium.

We now sit three points outside the top four so we’ll need to not only win, but claim every bonus point we can in a huge effort to make our way back into the four before we face the Fever in Perth in round 12.

Key match ups:

  • Shimona Nelson v Shamera Sterling: These two know each other and are both up and coming players in the league, Sterling is known for her quick thinking and incredible intercepts, but once Nelson has the ball, there’s close to no stopping her from scoring.
  • Ash Brazill v Chelsea Pitman: Depending on where Pitman plays, this potentially could be the match up to keep an eye on. Both players are extremely experienced, fast and not afraid to give 110% to gain possession of the ball.
  • April Brandley v Maria Folau: Folau was out last week, so if she was to return in round 11 we should expect her to be playing her finest netball, coming off World Cup has part of the champion team. Brandley however has returned from the World Cup in fine form, so this match-up is expected to turn heads as these two experienced players go head-to-head.

The team fly to Adelaide on Saturday and then take on the Thunderbirds Sunday afternoon at 2.30pm local time (3pm AEST), live on Telstra TV and via the Netball Live App.
