The Pies will do battle with the Thunderbirds under Friday night lights and match up against the Firebirds for a Sunday morning clash, both at the Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports Stadium this weekend.

The hit-outs come off the back of two wins against the NSW Swifts in Hobart, with the Pies provided the opportunity to test new combinations and structures as Round 1 quickly approaches.

The Magpies will head to Traralgon with a 10-woman playing squad for their next round of practice matches.

Kelsey Browne won’t be available to take to the court as she eyes off a Round 1 return and Ash Brazill will also support the team from the sidelines on Friday night.

Maggie Lind will join the squad for the first time, having missed the trip to Tasmania due to an injured calf.

Collingwood will first line up against the Adelaide Thunderbirds, who had the better of the Magpies in their two outings of the 2020 Suncorp Super Netball season.

The practice match will see the return of Jamaican international Shamera Sterling, as well as new Thunderbirds Latanya Wilson, Elle McDonald and former Magpie, Matilda Garrett.

The Magpies will then return to the Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports Stadium on Sunday morning to take on the Queensland Firebirds.

The sides shared the spoils in their two match-ups of the 2020 season, with the Pies victorious in Round 3 and the Firebirds claiming the win in Round 14.

Both matches were tight affairs with a four-goal and two goal-margin respectively.

The Firebirds may not have qualified for finals but showed plenty of promise come the back-end of the season, claiming four victories from their last five outings.

The two matches will provide further opportunity for Collingwood to fine-tune their preparation ahead of the season proper.
