Nike enhances partnership with Collingwood’s netball programs

Collingwood and Nike have strengthened their commitment to women’s sport through an enhanced partnership that will see the iconic Nike swoosh worn by the club’s netball programs.

In 2017 Nike became Collingwood’s compression and footwear partner for the netball and AFLW programs.

Today, Nike is now also official apparel partner of the club’s Super Netball and Australian Netball League programs.

The Magpies, who are currently in a quarantine hub in Queensland awaiting the start of the 2020 Super Netball season, will wear Nike apparel on the playing and training court.

Nike will also be a part of the program’s community initiatives.

For Nike, the elevation of its partnership with Collingwood netball is a further demonstration of the brand’s support for women’s sport.

Collingwood, with teams in the Super Netball competition and the Australian Netball League, and AFLW and VFLW competitions, is at the forefront of elite women’s sport in Australia.

Collingwood’s GM of Women’s Sport, Jane Woodlands-Thompson, said the partnership between Collingwood and Nike is a reflection of a passionate commitment to women’s sport that both hold.

“Nike is leading the global conversation for the equality and support of female athletes and women’s sporting codes. We are proud to be partnered with a brand working to make a difference in this space,” Woodlands-Thompson said.

“The elevated Nike partnership is a vote of confidence in where our club’s women’s programs are heading. We look forward to a long and prosperous partnership.”

The deepening of the partnership follows the news of a ‘phase one’ Super Netball return. A commitment from the Queensland Government has enabled the 2020 SSN season to get underway. Much of the campaign will be played in the Sunshine State where the Magpies recently relocated.

Super Netball is the first Australian female competition to return in 2020 following the COVID-19 lockdown.

Collingwood’s netballers will don the new-look Nike dress in their round one encounter with Melbourne Vixens on Sunday.

As well as carrying the iconic swoosh, 93% of the Nike Collingwood netball game day dress is made with 100% recycled polyester. Nike’s recycled polyester comprises of plastic bottles, pre-consumer textile scraps and post-consumer garments.

Since 2010, Nike has diverted more than 7 billion plastic bottles from landfill, to help protect the future of sport.
