The English Rose will take the reins for a third term but her first as a sole captain, with mid-courter Ash Brazill in support as vice-captain for the upcoming campaign.

Last year Mentor played every game of the 14-round season and tallied the most deflections (107) for defenders in the league.

The goal-keeper made Collingwood netball history by becoming the club’s first back-to-back winner of the best and fairest award.

Since joining Collingwood, the 36-year-old has taken the court in the starting seven line-up for every game.

Brazill missed Collingwood’s 2020 Super Netball campaign after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her right knee during Collingwood’s round four AFLW match against Melbourne in February last year.

The last time Brazill took the netball court was in September 2019 during the minor semi-final against the Melbourne Vixens.

In 2019 Brazill celebrated a milestone 100 national league games and was awarded selection in the Australian Diamonds team for the Constellation Cup.

In the same year, the cross-code half-back was named in the AFLW All-Australian team. Brazill is the first current international level netballer to win All-Australian AFLW honours.

Brazill is no stranger to leadership, she formerly vice-captained the club’s AFLW side last year. Her team-first mentality and understanding of the dynamics required for elite team success have made her a go-to resource for many of the athletes under the Collingwood roof.

Brazill will fill the shoes of Kelsey Browne who stepped down from a role in the leadership group to focus on rehabilitating a knee injury.

Collingwood’s GM of Women’s Sport, Jane Woodlands-Thompson, commended the pair.

“We are delighted to re-appoint Geva as captain and elect Ash as vice-captain for the 2021 campaign,” Woodlands-Thompson said.

“The panel believe Geva has the experience as well as the composure needed to lead, particularly in pressure moments.

“Ash has the unique ability to bring people together and at the same time lead by example. She is popular and well respected by the entire club.”
