It's a new round and a another midweek game for Collingwood as they prepare to come up against a dangerous, young team in the Adelaide Thunderbirds this Wednesday night.

The Magpies will arrive at the round five game having come off a close, one point loss to the West Coast Fever on Saturday. But the match proved another good opportunity for fans to see some great signs in a number of players.

Gabby Sinclair showed growth in confidence with a blazing stat line that included a shooting accuracy of 75 percent overall and with a sweet mix of 14 assists and two intercepts. She also managed to bomb five points from super shot land. If Sinclair can keep this form up with Nelson holding strong in the post, the Magpies offence will continue to hum.

In combatting the Thunderbirds, Jodi-Ann Ward and Matilda Garrett’s exceptional outer circle defence over the last few weeks will need to be carried through into Wednesday's match. This will be critical in limiting the Thunderbirds gaolers from finding a rhythm.

The combination of Geva Mentor's leadership and smarts at the post to guide defensive switches with Ward’s active hands and speed will hopefully apply great pressure on the Thunderbirds and should make for a great contest.

The Thunderbirds are a team that has shown flashes of taking it to the next level; a prime example being their win against the Melbourne Vixens last Sunday.

Defensively, Kate Shimmin and Shamera Sterling are dangerous and very active in disrupting passing lanes so it’s vital that the Magpies midcourt and attacking end treasures possession and remains patient guiding the ball into their shooters. The Thunderbirds like to hunt when the ball is flying free, so Shimona Nelson’s hold will also be incredibly important in keeping Sterling from any lobs and forcing her to stay in the post.
