The Magpies will look to bounce back from extra-time heartbreak and make it two from two against the Adelaide Thunderbirds this season.
Coming off Round 8:
The Magpies come off a heart-breaking two-goal loss to the Sunshine Coast Lightning, with the match going down to the wire in extra-time.
The Magpies barely put a foot wrong in the Round 8 clash but unfortunately, one side had to go home empty-handed.
"I'm shattered for the girls," Nicole Richardson said, post-match.
"But on the flip side, I'm really proud of what they put out there."
“I don’t think our players could have done much more, they fought hard, and they fought right to the end.”
The Magpies produced their lowest turnover game of the season, valuing the ball and hitting their centre-pass conversion targets.
If not for some Karla Pretorius heroics in extra-time, the Magpies may just have stolen the four points.
An eye on the opposition:
The Thunderbirds occupy seventh spot on the Suncorp Super Netball table, with two wins and six losses to their name.
Despite the ledger not being in their favour, the Thunderbirds have recorded some stirring wins, including a six-goal victory over the Vixens and a five-goal upset against the Swifts.
They also fell agonisingly short against the Lightning, falling to the top of the table side by just a single goal in Round 5.
Shamera Sterling has been a shining light, leading the league for defensive rebounds and deflections and trailing only Courtney Bruce for intercepts.
Last time we met:
The Magpies notched their first win of the 2021 season against the Thunderbirds back in Round 3.
Shimona Nelson came up trumps in an enthralling duel with Jamaican compatriot Sterling (netting 37 goals at 94.7 per cent shooting accuracy) while Gabby Sinclair landed two of her five super shots down the stretch.
Collingwood held a narrow advantage for the majority of the game but the Thunderbirds refused to go away, stealing the lead with less than four minutes to play.
However, the Magpies steadied through a Sinclair super shot to claim a four-goal win.
Jodi-Ann Ward was instrumental in defence, recording eight gains, four intercepts and five deflections to claim player of the match honours.
