Collingwood netball will return to Bendigo on Saturday 17 April and play host to the Giants in a blockbuster pre-season game.
Elite netball will resume at Bendigo Stadium following 21 months since Collingwood played a Super Netball match at a home venue in front of their Victorian supporters. Last year the COVID-19 pandemic forced teams across the country to relocate to hubs in Queensland for the season.
Collingwood’s ongoing partnership with the City of Greater Bendigo delivers major sports events, sports participation, and development programs to the region.
Collingwood aims to support the growth of women’s netball in Bendigo and promote high performance pathways for young women to play at the elite level.
City of Greater Bendigo Tourism and Major Events Manager, Terry Karamaloudis, said the City was very pleased to welcome the Magpies back to Greater Bendigo.
“With so many events cancelled or postponed last year, it is fantastic to be able to host this event at our state-of-the-art Bendigo Stadium,” Mr Karamaloudis said.
“We look forward to our community being able to come and enjoy such high quality and exciting elite netball right here in Bendigo.
“We’re proud to have such a diverse and high-quality program of sporting and cultural events on offer.”
Bendigo Stadium’s Head of Events, Kate Lawrence echoed Mr Karamaloudis’ words.
“Greater Bendigo has a strong netball community, and we are proud to provide this community with an opportunity to experience netball at its most elite level.”
Collingwood’s GM of Women’s Sport, Jane Woodlands-Thompson, celebrated a return to netball in the region.
“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to play in front of our Bendigo supporters,” Woodlands-Thompson said.
“With the whirlwind of a year that was 2020, we are very appreciative of the continuous support we received from our members and fans whilst we were away from home.
“With today’s announcement, we look forward to showcasing our new, exciting brand of elite netball.”
Collingwood play the Giants at 7pm on Saturday 17 April at Bendigo Stadium.
Tickets go on sale here on Thursday 1 April, with a member pre-sale window from 9am and the general public available from midday.
