Collingwood will commence their 2020 season strong with two consecutive home matches to be played in Melbourne.
With the release today of the Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) fixture for the next year, matches in Tasmania as well as Melbourne have been confirmed.
Following last season’s fixture the Magpies will play five home games at Melbourne Arena, with an additional two home matches, on Mothers’ Day at the Melbourne Sports Centre in Parkville and the other at the Silverdome in Launceston.
The 2020 season will start in May with a bye following round eight at the end of June.
With an initial two week home court advantage, the Magpies will take on West Coast Fever at Melbourne Arena on May 2 before playing reigning premiers NSW Swifts at the Melbourne Sport Centre in Parkville.
Collingwood Magpies’ head coach, Rob Wright, said the early home advantage is great for the new playing group.
“Starting off the season with two weeks on home turf presents an opportunity for the group to gel together and solidify any new on-court combinations,” Wright said.
“Two weeks of netball in Melbourne will build momentum for our fans and members.”
Round four sees the team travel to Launceston where they will meet with the Giants on the Pies’ undefeated home court, the Silverdome.
The Magpies will first travel to Tasmania on February 28 for a preseason practice match against Sunshine Coast Lightning at the Derwent Entertainment Centre in Hobart.
“It’s great being able to return to Tassie for another season, it’s our home away from home,” Wright said.
“We have a great support base in Tassie and love every opportunity we get to play in front of them.”
Collingwood fans will enjoy a day of two blockbuster events as the Collingwood’s SSN team along with the club’s AFL side secure the Queen’s birthday public holiday.
On Monday June 8, the Magpies will play the Melbourne Vixens at Melbourne Arena. The encounter between Melbourne’s two netball rivals will precede the FightMND’s Big Freeze match between Collingwood and Melbourne at the MCG.
The Magpies played the Melbourne Vixens three times in 2019 with two victories and one defeat in the minor semi-final. The upcoming Melbourne derbies in round six and 14 adds another chapter to the rivalry.

Collingwood replacement player Molly Jovic will debut in the black and white. The tournament presents the first occasion for the 2020 squad to play together.
Collingwood training partners’ Brooke Allan, Sharni Lambden and newly listed Nyah Allen and Emma Ryde will support the list of eleven for the 2020 season. Brooke Allan and Nyah Allen will travel with the team for the Super Club tournament.
