Collingwood’s netball program will commence their 2020 Super Netball season on Sunday August 2 following Netball Australia’s confirmation of a ‘phase one’ fixture today.
An announcement of the first six rounds of the season will see Collingwood play at Nissan Arena and the University of Sunshine Coast Stadium (USC).
Collingwood is currently adhering to a mandatory 14-day quarantine period in Brisbane which will be completed on Monday August 3.
An exemption from the Queensland Government has allowed for the two Victorian teams to play each other during the quarantine period on Sunday August 2 at Nissan Arena. The exemption has ensured the season will commence on the first weekend of August as planned.
Round two will see the Pies play the Sunshine Coast Lighting on Saturday August 8 at the USC Stadium, before returning to Nissan Arena in a three-day turnaround to take on the Queensland Firebirds on Tuesday August 11.
Matches against the West Coast Fever and Adelaide Thunderbirds are to follow on Sunday August 16 and Tuesday August 18. Both games will be played at the USC Stadium.
Round six will see the Pies play the NSW Swifts on Saturday August 22 at Nissan Arena.
The final eight rounds of the Super Netball season is expected to be confirmed by August.
The return of netball to Melbourne is being considered for later in the season. State border restrictions and health authorities managing the COVID-19 pandemic will influence what is possible in the next phase.
All matches will be broadcast live on screens across the national on Channel Nine.
