Sharni Layton will not play in the upcoming January Quad Series, after not receiving medical clearance from the Samsung Diamonds.
After recently taking some time away from the sport, Layton has returned to pre-season training with the Magpies ahead of the 2018 Suncorp Super Netball season.
Diamonds Head Coach Lisa Alexander said although Layton is showing great progression, she is not yet at the level required of the Diamonds on this tour.
“Sharni is progressing well with her training at the Magpies, but has fallen just short of what is required to be test match ready,” explained Alexander.
“We were clear from the outset that her selection would be subject to medical clearance, and we need 14 athletes ready to go in January, for what will be a very demanding test series.
“She will continue in her training with the Magpies, working on progressing her training further.”
The Diamonds squad will gather in Canberra from 11 – 14 January for a Commonwealth Games Simulation Camp, before the 14 Quad Series athletes travel to England.
“Sharni will join us at the Commonwealth Games Simulation Camp, which will also be a Selection Camp for all attending squad athletes, and is very much in the mix for selection in the Commonwealth Games,” Alexander said.
Collingwood will still have a strong representation in the Quad Series, with the trio of April Brandley, Kim Ravaillion and Caitlin Thwaites in the Diamonds’ squad.
The Netball Quad Series is the final test series for the Samsung Diamonds before the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
