Four Magpies have been selected in the 2018 Quad Series team, as announced by Netball Australia on Thursday morning.

The Australian Diamonds are set to have a strong Collingwood presence in the 2018 Quad Series after Kim Ravaillion, April Brandley, Caitlin Thwaites and Sharni Layton were all selected in the team of 14.

Collingwood’s quartet will travel with the national squad who will tour England and South Africa in January next year, as confirmed by Netball Australia on Thursday morning.

With four Magpies selected, Collingwood becomes the most represented Super Netball club for the Australian Diamonds ahead the upcoming Quad Series.

After taking a break from the sport earlier this year, Magpies defender Sharni Layton will be back in the national mix after being named in the squad by head coach Lisa Alexander and the national selectors.

“The selectors and I are ensuring all options are explored prior to selection of the Commonwealth Games team in February, hence the changes from our Constellation Cup team, and continuing our focus on the high performance process,” Diamonds coach Lisa Alexander said.

“Sharni has been named for the upcoming Quad Series subject to medical clearance after taking a leave of absence over the last three months.

“She is looking forward to getting back into training and joining her teammates for the upcoming training block.”

After successfully retaining the Constellation Cup in October, the Diamonds will be vying for a strong start to the 2018 season after falling to New Zealand in the most recent Quad Series in September.

The 2018 Netball Quad Series will be the final test series for the Australian Diamonds before the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, set to be commence in April next year.
