The Tasmanian Magpies will be made up of recently announced Collingwood Magpies’ training partners along with another two Victorian and seven Tasmanian based athletes.
Collingwood Magpies training partner’s Brooke Allan, Sharni Lambden, Nyah Allen and Emma Ryde will join Sam Gooden and one other athlete from Victoria.
Zoe Claridge, Zanna Jodlowska, Shelby Miller, Ashleigh Probert-Hill and Kelsie Rainbow return to the squad after being a part of the 2019 bronze medal team. Alex Vinen returns to the team after a year absence, while new recruit Rebecca Hyland will make her debut with the side in 2020.
Next season six Tasmanian athletes will be selected each week to travel with the Victorian players.
Collingwood Magpies’ head coach Rob Wright and recently appointed Tasmanian Magpies’ head coach Jon Fletcher played key roles in the recruitment process.
Tasmanian Magpies’ coach, Jon Fletcher, is delighted with the talent secured.
“We selected seven Tasmanian athletes which is indicative of the strength of the Tasmanian talent,” Fletcher said.
“It was great to have Rob involved in the recruitment. This program underpins the senior Magpie program and provides a pathway for Tasmanian players.”
Netball Tasmania’s high performance manager, Jo Marsh, is pleased with the number of Tasmanian-based talent.
“Having seven Tasmanian athletes as part of the program gives us flexibility on a week-to-week basis,” Marsh said.
“With five returning athletes, as well as two new faces, we will have a good balance within the program.”
The final Victorian athlete is due to be filled in the pre-season.
