ANL Round 6 Preview: Melbourne Fury

After 0/2 during round 5, the Tasmanian Magpies will be looking to bounce back during round 6 of the Deakin University Australian Netball League (DUANL) which will be played across Sunday and Monday this long weekend.

This round of matches will be another good test for the #TASMAGS to see where they sit in the competition, as they take on top placed Vic Fury, who have dropped just the one game so far in the competition.

Head Coach Elissa Kent and Magpies Training Partner Brooke Allan and Samantha Gooden were involved with the Fury last year and will be up against their old side for the first time.

Kent said she was very fortunate to work under Leesa Gallard last year as her assistant coach.

“She was/is exceptionally organised and was very supportive in my development and understanding of what the head coach role took.

“She was very collaborative, so it has allowed that step to not be too great” she said.

In looking at taking on her old team, it will require a team effort.

“It will be important that all 7 on court at any time are doing their job”

“Obviously they have a big target in that goal circle and any ball we can limit will be crucial.”

“For the most part we just need to play our game” said Kent.

Consistency has been a key theme for the black, white and green team this year and has been mentioned on multiple occasions. It was noted by Coach Kent in regards to learnings from last weekend as well in discussion of the importance of this weekend’s matches.

“Every time we play, we are searching for consistency in game plans and skills, and this week is no different.”

“The results of over the last two weeks of competition will affect ladder positioning, but we just need to keep focused on the process” she said.
